Training camp started a few weeks ago for many of the Admirals Players. Training down in Florida with the Lightning getting themselves in shape, trying to make impressions, and even fighting for potential roster spots with the parent NHL club. Fast forward to this past Sunday and many of these players found themselves with Norfolk getting ready for the upcoming AHL season. Some of these players are veterans to the league and the Admirals, others are making their first appearance in the league or in an Admirals uniform. All are looking forward to the season, looking to get themselves into a position to get to the Lightning and bringing the Calder Cup to Norfolk.
On Monday the Admirals found themselves traveling to St. John’s where they will hold training camp and play all of their pre-season games against the St. John’s IceCaps. The team had a practice Tuesday morning shaking off rust and getting down to business. Wednesday brought on another morning practice and then it was on the bus for a four-hour trip to Gander where they will take on the IceCaps. The IceCaps will be the opponents for two more games. Final cuts will then be made and the team will return to Norfolk.
Norfolk is ready for the upcoming season. The boards and glass have been assembled, and there is a fresh sheet of ice ready for the Admirals. The Charlotte Checkers will be our first opponents to start the season. This will also a sort of homecoming for former Admiral captain, Chris Durno. If you have season tickets you can pick them up at the Admirals office starting Monday October 3. There will also be a team meet and greet on Wednesday October 5 starting at 6. The team will be practicing at 4 before making their way to the meet and greet at SCOPE. If you are not a season ticket holder then get your tickets now. Let’s pack SCOPE and welcome the 2011/2012 Admirals back to town.
