Game Day – Admirals Vs. St John’s IceCaps

By Ken Peacock

Strap on the Skates and let’s get going. Admirals Pre-Season Hockey is here. The Admirals and IceCaps are set to drop the puck at 6pm Eastern Time. The location for this match is Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. Both teams will see each other two more times before kicking off the regular season.

With 27 players competing for a roster spot, Coach Cooper has to get a good look at the squad. “In the first game, we’re probably going to be more liberal with the ice time – especially with some of the players who are on the bubble of making the team.”, said Cooper on how he plans to do this. Building chemistry between the members of the team and putting together solid scoring lines is going to be key to a good start for the season next Friday at Scope.

The line up tonight will have Dustin Tokarski starting in-goal with Pat Nagle backing him up. The defensive pairings are Vernace-Gudas, Petiot-Dimmen, Barberio-Quick. And the forward lines are Hutchings-Smith-Labrie, Picard-Conacher-Ouellet, Palat-Devos-Fornataro, Wright-Johnson-Panik. This has Angelidis, Wyman, Ashton, Neilson, Landry, Ludwig, Janus in the stands for the night.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
