Admirals Vs. Checkers – Sat Oct 8, 2011

By Ken Peacock

With game one in the books it’s time to move on to the next order of business….Game 2 of course. The Admirals and Charlotte played a high scoring, penalty filled game last night with the Admirals taking the game with Carter Ashton scoring an overtime game winner to send the boys to the locker room. Hopefully the guys didn’t celebrate too hard last night as the Checkers are looking for some payback.

There is one thing that I am interested in seeing tonight. Will Coach Cooper start Dustin Tokarski in the net or will he give the nod to Jaroslav Janus. Tokarski gave up 5 goals in the win last night. While he is not solely the one to blame I saw two that he probably should have stopped and one goal where it was like he was a ghost and the puck went right thru him. Needless to say it’s early in the season and maybe Janus should get the start tonight.

One game does not make a season, but this team looked good on the ice last night. Carter Ashton is a welcome addition to our offense, he scored the opening goal and sealed it up in overtime. He looks to be the real deal. Cory Conacher is another player that caught my eye. While he may not have had the best game (0G 1A -3), he hustled on every shift. Now he is not the tallest or most intimidating player, but he stood his ground  and gave back everything the Charlotte Captain sent his way. Overall I believe we have a good squad here.

The Admirals and Charlotte take the ice again tonight at 7:15. There will be a post game skate immediately following the game.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
