Admirals Fall To The Charlotte Checkers

By Ken Peacock

The Admirals embarked on a 7 game road trip tonight at the home of the Charlotte Checkers. The Checkers were the first opponents for the Admirals on opening weekend and Norfolk took both games. The Checkers were looking to return the favor tonight at the Time Warner Arena in Charlotte.

Both teams went scoreless for the first period. Carter Ashton opened up the scoring at 8 minutes in on the second period with his team leading sixth goal of the season, Barberio and Conacher assisted in Ashton’s power play goal. The Checkers would answer back less than four minutes later to tie the game at a goal each. Charlotte’s Cedric McNicoll would give the Checkers a 2-1 lead in the closing seconds of the second period.

The third period was a goalie and defensive battle before Drayson Bowman of the Checkers put the final nail in the Admirals coffin with 1:20 remaining in the third period. Both goalies had good games, but Mike Murphy of the Checkers came out the winner. Dustin Tokarski faced stopped 27 of 30 shots and took the loss. Mike Murphy faced 45 Admiral shots and stopped 44 of them for the win. Both teams went 1-3 on the power play.

Carter Ashton was named the third star in the contest tonight. Ashton is leading the Admirals in scoring by adding another goal to his stat sheet.

The Admirals hold a 2-1 lead on the GEICO Challenge Cup.

The Admirals continue on with the 7 game road trip on Wednesday with the Adirondack Phantoms in Glen Falls, N.Y.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
