Game Day: Norfolk Admirals Vs. Syracuse Crunch

By Ken Peacock

Norfolk finishes off the week and the end of October at the old War Memorial Arena in Syracuse N.Y. The Admirals arrive fresh off of a 4-2 win over the Providence Bruins the night before, while the host team, Syracuse Crunch, suffered a 5-3 home loss to the WB/S Penguins. Tonight will be Syracuse’ “Pink In The Rink Night” supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Crunch currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Division with a 4-2-1-1 with 10 points. There are 3 points behind the Eastern Division leading Admirals and their 6-2-0-1 12 point record. While the playoff’s are still a distant object, I believe every game against a conference rival is a must win for the Admirals. Tonight is no different.

Syracuse is led by Nick Bonino (2G 9A 11Pts  +5 +/-) and Kyle Palmieri (8G 2A 10Pts +7 +/-). Iiro Tarkki and Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers are the goal tending tandem for Crunch. They have allowed 25 goals in 9 games.

Ashton Carter (8G 5A 13Pts +1 +/-) continues on his point streak and his hold on the number one spot in scoring for the Admirals and AHL rookies. Cory Conacher (4G 7A 11Pts 0 +/-) , Trevor Smith (4G 7A 11Pts +9 +/-), and Mark Barberio (1G 9A 10Pts +5 +/-) bring up the tail end of the Admirals top four. Dustin Tokarski performed well last night against the Bruins and improved his record to 3W 2L with a .864 save percentage. Friday night saw the return of Scott Jackson to the Admirals blue-line. Jackson has been nursing an injury and has been noticeably missing from the Admirals Defense.

The Admirals will not return to action until next friday when they open a three game weekend starting with the Albany Devils in Albany. They will then move onto Bridgeport to take on the SoundTigers and finally finishing up the road trip in Providence for another match-up with the Bruins. Norfolk finally meets the WB/S Penguins for one of the few Wednesday night games on November 9 at the Norfolk Scope.

Don’t miss out on any of the fan discussion at Norfolk AdmiralsZone.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
