Bridgeport Win 3-2 Over Struggling Admirals

By Ken Peacock

The Admirals came into the Webster Bank Arena this afternoon hoping to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to the Albany Devils on Friday. Bridgeport on the other hand were hoping to add to their 2 game winning streak. Bridgeport came out on the winning end of this matchup, beating the Admirals 3-2. Norfolk drops to 3-3-0-0 on their seven game road trip. The Admirals will wrap up the road trip Sunday in Providence against the Bruins at 4pm.

Bridgeport started the scoring ten minutes into the game with a goal from Matt Donovan. Donovon finished off a two-on-one rush when he took a pass from David Ullstrom and sent it off the crossbar and into the back of the net. Norfolk would answer back near the one minute mark of the first period. Pierre-Cedric Labrie sent a pass to Alexandre Picard who got off a quick shot onto the pads of Bridgeport goaltender Anders Nilsson. Trevor Smith was there to send the rebound past Nilsson and into the net.

A Trevor Frischmon goal five minutes into the second period would put Bridgeport back into the lead. Both teams were skating at four skaters each, Frischmon took a long Aaron Ness pass and skated past an Admirals defender and sent the puck past Janus for a 2-1 lead.

The Sound Tigers would increase the lead to 3-1 in the third period on a David Ullstrom goal with a low shot from the right circle that beat Janus. Norfolk closed to within one goal with 3 minutes remaining in regulation. Carter Ashton took the rebound off of a Cory Conacher shot and beat Nilsson to cut the lead to 3-2. This would be as close as the Admirals would get as Bridgeport shut the Admirals down for the final minutes.

Jaroslav Janus (4-1-1) was saddled with his first regulation loss. He stopped 29 of 32. Bridgeport’s Anders Nilsson (4-1-0) stopped 27 of 29 shots for the Sound Tiger win. Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Bridgeport was 1-5.

Norfolk wraps up their road-trip in Providence on Sunday. They return to Norfolk for a Wednesday night game with the WB/S Penguins.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
