Game Day: Admirals Vs. WB/S Penguins

By Ken Peacock

The Admirals are back home at the Scope Arena for a brief visit before heading out on the road again. Fresh off a shutout win in Providence that brought an end to their seven game road trip. Norfolk will be playing their division rival, WB/S Penguins. The Admirals and Penguins occupy the top two spots in the division that has Norfolk with a 1 point edge over the Penguins.

The Penguins scoring machine has 4 players with ten points or more. Bryan Lerg (6G 7A +8), Eric Tangradi (5G 5A +3), Brian Gibbons (3G 7A +2), and Colin McDonald (3G 7A +3) have all had the scoring touch for the Penguins. The Penguin defense has been quiet lately, but have done what was needed to keep the Pens in the game. Brad Thiessen has had pulled the majority of minutes in Net for the Penguins. He comes into Scope with a record of 7W 2L and a 1.80 goals against average.

The Admirals Carter Ashton (11G 5A +3), Trevor Smith (6G 9A +11), and Cory Conacher (4G 10A 0 +/-) lead the offense.  Ashton leads the AHL in goals scored and is third overall in AHL scoring. Mark Barberio (2G 9A +9) continues to anchor the defense. Goalies Tokarski (4W 3L 2.54GAA) earned a shutout victory over the Bruins on Sunday and is expected to get the start tonight. Mattias Ritola was expected to be in the lineup tonight after clearing waivers and being assigned to Norfolk. Ritola has had other plans and is currently on $125 waivers. Should he clear his contract will be bought out and he will most likely head to Europe.

Tonight game is the only home game for the next two weeks. The Admirals will head up to Albany for a Friday night match up against the Devils and then they will meet the Penguins for a Saturday game. If you have not already got your tickets then get them now as it is sure to be a great game. We would also like to welcome Tom Grace back to the friendly confines of Scope and introduce him to this year’s Admirals style of Hockey. 🙂

Don’t miss out on any of the fan discussion at Norfolk AdmiralsZone.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
