Norfolk makes it first appearance of the season in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton tonight at 7:05 p.m. The Admirals with a struggling offense are looking to put an end to an 0-2 slump and get a little revenge for Wednesday’s night loss to the Penguins.
Bryan Lerg (6G 7A +9), Eric Tangradi (7G 5A +4), and Colin McDonald (4G 7A +4) have all had the scoring touch for the Penguins. Fortunately for the Admirals, Eric Tangradi was called up to Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Simon Despres (2G 5A +5) and Carl Sneep (0G 5A +8) lead the defense. Brad Thiessen(9W 2L 2.00GAA) has had pulled the majority of minutes in Net for the Penguins. He was impressive in net on Wednesday at Scope and the Admirals must figure him out if they want to be successful against the Penguins this season.
The Admirals Carter Ashton (11G 6A +3), Cory Conacher (6G 10A -1), and Trevor Smith (6G 10A +11) lead the offense. Mark Barberio (2G109A +8) continues to anchor the defense. Dustin Tokarski (4W 4L 2.6GAA) and Jaroslav Janus (4W 2L 1SOL 2.96GAA) continue to share the goal tending duties for the Admirals. I would expect Tokarski to be in the net tonight against the Penguins.
The candle on the Admirals offense appears to have been snuffed out over the last few games. While Norfolk still leads the AHL in goals scored with 55, it’s the goals against total of 44 that is what we should be concerned about. There are only six other teams that have a higher goals against. The Admirals need to get their act together and regain that scoring touch. Hopefully they can find it tonight.
The Admirals road trip continues next Friday and Saturday night as they visit the St. John’s IceCaps. The next home match will be Wednesday, November 23 against the Charlotte Checkers and the Friday and Saturday night games against the Providence Bruins.
