NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Admirals have signed defenseman Jean-Philippe Cote to a Professional Tryout Contract, Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Cote, 6-foot-2, 213-pounds, is a veteran of over 400 professional games. He has played 384 games at the American Hockey League Level, scoring 12 goals and 66 points with 551 penalty minutes between Hamilton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Cote has never finished a season as a minus player, posting an AHL career plus/minus rating of plus-69. He won the 2007 Calder Cup Championship with Hamilton.
This season, the 29-year-old native of Québec City, Québec has appeared in ten games with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL, posting one goal and three points with a plus-5 rating.
Cote has also appeared in eight National Hockey League games, all with the Montreal Canadiens during the 2005-06 season. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the ninth round (265th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Cote played 266 career games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League between Acadie-Bathurst, Cape Breton and Québec, posting 19 goals and 103 points.
