After a disappointing loss to the Charlotte Wednesday, Norfolk returns to the ice for a weekend home series with the Providence Bruins. Tonight’s game (7:30pm) marks the first time in over two seasons that Providence has played on Scope ice. Both teams will meet again Saturday at 7:15pm.
The Baby “B”‘s are fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 8-11-1-1 record. They have only managed to score 47 goals while allowing 67. Providence is currently on a 0-3-0-1 streak and have went 3-6-0-1 in their last ten games. Carter Camper (5G 10A 0 +/-) and Zach Hamill (6G 7A +3) lead the Bruins is scoring. David Warsofsky (1G 8A +2), and Kevan Miller (1G 4A 0 +/-) lead the Bruins defense. Anton Khudobin has seen the majority of the action in net and holds a 7W 9L record and a 2.97GAA. Providence is
Norfolk is 10-8-0-1 and hold the third position in the east behind the WB/S Penguins and the Hershey Bears. The Admirals Cory Conacher (10G 12A 0 +/-) and Trevor Smith (9G 12A +11) lead the offense. Cory Conacher leads all AHL rookies in scoring. Mark Barberio (3G 13A +9) maintains the hold as the top scoring Admirals defensemen. Mark has been solid on the blueline. Goalies Tokarski (5W 5L 2.70GAA) and Janus (5W 3L 3.18GAA) have have struggled over the last few weeks and neither one have claimed the number one spot. Coach Jon Cooper continues to give them regular starts, rotating them game after game. Blair Jones has been assigned to Norfolk from the Lightning after clearing waivers yesterday. It is unknown at this time if he has reported or will be playing this weekend.
Tonight is Diabetes awareness night at Scope with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center. Admirals winger, Cory Conacher, is a type 1 diabetic who battles the disease every day. Saturday is March of Dimes Night at Scope. Come out and support the Admirals and these worthy causes.
