Game Day: Admirals Vs. WB/S Penguins

By Ken Peacock

The Admirals take to the ice in a rare Tuesday night game against the East Division leading WB/S Penguins. Norfolk (12-8-0-1) trails the Penguins (11-5-1-4) for the division lead by 2 points.

Bryan Lerg (9G 9A +9), and Colin McDonald (5G 13A +8) lead the Penguins in scoring. Simon Despres (3G 4A +3) and Carl Sneep (0G 7A +7) lead the defense. Brad Thiessen(9W 5L 2SOL 2.45GAA) has had pulled the majority of minutes in Net for the Penguins. The Pens have have been struggling as of late and are 4-3-0-3 in their last ten games.

The Admirals Cory Conacher (10G 13A +1), and Trevor Smith (9G 13A +12) lead the offense.  Mark Barberio (3G 13A +10) continues to anchor the defense. Dustin Tokarski (7W 5L 2.49GAA) and Jaroslav Janus (5W 3L 1SOL 3.18GAA) continue to share the goal tending duties for the Admirals. Admirals to watch are Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Blair Jones. Labrie has turned up the heat on his offensive skills, while Jones has been logging a lot of ice time since his return from Tampa Bay.

Anytime Norfolk plays the Penguins it is like a playoff game. Tonight’s games is a must win for the Admirals. WB/S and Brad Thiessen have been in a slump as of late, but are still a dangerous team to contend with.

The Admirals home stand continues Friday and Saturday night when Adirondack comes to town. The Phantoms (11-7-0-1) are currently third in the Northeast Division. There are plenty of tickets available for all three games. Get your’s now!

Don’t miss out on any of the fan discussion at Norfolk AdmiralsZone.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
