Admirals Beat Penguins 5-2, Conacaher Adds Two More Goals

By Ken Peacock

Cory Conacher scores twice, Blair Jones adds another as the Norfolk Admirals (13-8-0-1) defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (11-6-1-4), 5-2 Tuesday night at Scope. Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton now share the top position in the East Division.

The Penguins struck first with a power play goal at 15:36 of the first period. Niko Dimitrakos sent a Nick Petersen through the traffic and past Admirals goalie, Dustin Tokarski for a 1-0 lead. The Admirals tied the game at 1-1 three minutes later with a Mike Angleidis goal beating Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalie Scott Munroe at 18:39 for his fifth goal of the season.

The Admirals would take a 2-1 lead ten minutes into the second period on Blair Jones’ second goal of the season since returning from Tampa Bay. Richard Panik sent a shot to the net and Munroe stopped the shot. A WB/S Penguin player pushed an Admirals on top of Munroe and Jones slammed home the rebound. The Penguins recomposed themselves and struck less than a minute later on a goal from Ben Street to tie the game at 2 each.  Cory Conacher would put the Admirals ahead for good at the 14 minute mark of the third. With the Admirals on the power play, Cory Conacher struck again. Blair Jones passed the puck to Conacher in the slot that was sent in on the net and past Munroe at the nine minute mark. As the final seconds rolled off the clock Trevor Smith made it 5-2 Admirals with an empty net goal.

Dustin Tokarski (8-5-0) made it three straight wins stopping 16 of 18 shots. Scott Munroe (2-2-2) stopped 27 of 31 shots for the loss. Norfolk was 2-7 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-6.

The Admirals are back in action at Scope on Friday and Saturday night against the Adirondack Phantoms.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
