Game Day – Admirals Vs. Senators

By Ken Peacock

Hockey Night in Binghamton as the Norfolk Admirals (14-9-0-1) visit the Binghamton Senators (9-14-1-1). Norfolk brings a 1-1 record against the Senators this season. The Admirals will play tonight and Saturday night in Binghamton before heading south for a Sunday game against the Bears.

Binghamton is hurting at the moment with the loss of players due to illness, injury, and call-ups. The Sens are 25 games into the season and have already lost 59 man games to illness and injury. This weekend they will be without the services of Derek Grant and Josh Godfrey who were injured in a Wednesday night loss to the WB/S Penguins. The Senators are led in scoring by former Admiral Mark Parrish. Parrish (8G 6A -4) is questionable for this weekends games, but might be forced into an early return. Rookie, Andre Petersson (7G 6A +2) is next in scoring. The Sens defense is led by Patrick Wiercioch (2G 10A -8). Binghamton’s goalies, Robin Lehner (6-9-12.79GAA) and Mike McKenna (3-6-0 2.91GAA) have allowed 72 goals between them while the offense has only contributed 58. The offense and defense are going to have to step up if they want to move out of the cellar of the East Division.

The Admirals currently sit in third place in the East Division behind the WB/S Penguins and the Hershey Bears. Evan Oberg was returned to the Admirals this morning after a brief stay with the Lightning in the press-box. Blair Jones has been recalled to the Lightning. Palat, Petiot, and Picard all made the trip up north this weekend and could possibly play. Norfolk is led by  Cory Conacher (12G 13A +1) and Trevor Smith (10G 15A +13). Mark Barberio (3G 15A +11) is having a great year and continues to lead the Admirals defense. Dustin Tokarski (9-5-0 2.35GAA) has been hot as of late, with a 4 game winning streak. Jaroslav Janus (5-4-1 3.27GAA) shares the goal-tending duties with Tokarski.

Both teams will meet for another game tomorrow in Binghamton. Sunday the Admirals will find themselves in Hershey for a match with the Bears. Norfolk returns to home action on Friday, December 16 against Hershey. This will also be the annual Toy Toss. Get your tickets today!

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
