Admirals Roll Over The Senators 5-2

By Ken Peacock

AHL Rookie Scoring Leader, Cory Conacher, nets 2 goals as as the Norfolk Admirals (16-9-0-1) hands the Binghamton Senators (9-16-1-1) a 5-2 loss, on Saturday night at the Broome County Veteran’s Memorial Arena. Next up for the Admirals are division rivals, Hershey Bears, tonight in Hershey, PA.

Norfolk opened up the scoring on a Trevor Smith goal. At 16:55 of the first period Evan Oberg fed a pass to Smith who promptly put the puck past former Admiral netminder, Mike McKenna. The Senators would answer back two minutes later when former Admirals, Rob Klinkhammer deflected a Stephane Da Costa pass into the neat and past Jaroslav Janus.

Cory Conacher would score his first of two goals on the night at the 8:22 mark of the second. Trevor Smith sent a pass in front of the Senators goal and Conacher collected the pass and beat McKenna for his 14th goal of the season.

Norfolk took a 2-1 lead on Cory Conacher’s 14th goal of the season. Conacher picked up a pass from Smith in the front of the Senators’ crease and sent a shot over a sprawling McKenna and into the top of the right corner of the net at the 8:22 mark of the second period. Late into the second period Carter Ashton and Tyler Johnson would connect to give the Admirals a 3-1 lead. At 17:14 Ashton passed to Johnson who shot to the net. THe puck would deflect of the top of McKenna’s stick and into the back of the net.

Binghamton would make it a 3-2 game at the nine minute mark of the third on a Mike Hoffman power play goal at the 8:58 mark of the third period. Cory Conacher answered back at the 10:08 mark with his second of the night and an assist for Pierre-Cedric Labrie. J.T. Wyman sealed up the game with an unassisted, empty-net shorthanded goal at 18:46 of the final period.

Jaroslav Janus (6-4-1) stopped 15 of 17 shots for the victory. Mike McKenna (3-7-0) stopped 37 of 41 shots for the loss. Norfolk was 1-5 on the power play. Binghamton was 2-5.

The Admirals finish up this short road trip with a match against Hershey tonight and return to action at Scope on Friday against the same Hershey Bears.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
