Game Day: Admirals Vs. Hershey Bears

Normally I would put together a preview for tonight’s game. We will do it a little different today as I am hurting for time. Here is the game preview from the Hershey Bears. Tonight will be the Annual Toy Toss, so bring a nice stuffed animal or soft toy. This is also the last Admirals game before Christmas.

TONIGHT’S GAME PREVIEW: BEARS at ADMIRALS

Friday, December 16, 2011 – 7:30 PM

NORFOLK SCOPE

REFEREE: Steve Patafie (#85)
LINESMEN: Bill Lyons (#27) and Tom George (#61)

BEARS vs. ADMIRALS: Your HERSHEY BEARS take to the road for the final time before the Christmas break, visiting the Norfolk Admirals for a 7:30 PM faceoff. This is the fourth of ten meetings in the regular-season series, and second of three this week. The teams will clash again this Sunday at GIANT Center. Norfolk is the top developmental affiliate of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.

LAST MEETING: The BEARS and Admirals faced off last Sunday in HERSHEY, with the BEARS skating out to a 4-1 lead before the game’s first period ended. Factoring into all four of the goals was the AHL’s leading scorer, Keith Aucoin, who potted two power-play goals and assisted on two other tallies. The Admirals closed the gap to 4-3 in the second period, but Tomas Kundratek scored a third-period insurance goal to help the BEARS to a 6-3 victory. Jacob Micflikier and Chris Bourque went on to finish with four (1+3) and five (2+3) respectively. Bourque’s five-point effort was his second of the season against the Admirals, having put together the same total on October 14.

FIVE OUT OF SIX… …of the AHL’s top scorers will face off against each other tonight: #1 HER Keith Aucoin (8-35-43), #2 HER Chris Bourque (14-25-39), #3 NOR Trevor Smith (13-20-33), #5 NOR Cory Conacher (16-16-32), #6 HER Jacob Micflikier (10-20-30).

These six players combined for 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) in last Sunday’s 6-3 HERSHEY victory.

GETTING THE JUMP: The BEARS have lit the lamp 37 times in the first period to date this season, most in the AHL.

O-BEAUTIFUL: Scoring 94 goals over 26 games, the BEARS now rank tied for second in the AHL in goals per game (3.62).
The BEARS are also tied for the league lead in wins (10) when leading after the first period.

ONE-TWO PUNCH: C Keith Aucoin (8-35-43) and LW Chris Bourque (14-25-39) rank first and second in the AHL scoring race.

QUADRUPPLET: The top four players in power-play points are all from HERSHEY: Aucoin (4-17-21), Bourque (8-12-20), Jacob Micflikier (5-11-16) and Graham Mink (8-7-15).

GOOD DEAL: Since being acquired from the NY Rangers on November 8 in exchange for Francois Bouchard, D Tomas Kundratek has posted four goals, two assists and a plus-2 rating – all of which have come in his current six-game point streak.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
