Norfolk Continues The Losing Streak, Drop Another to Albany 3-1

By Ken Peacock

Someone forgot to wake the Admirals up tonight. Norfolk (21-12-1-3) fell asleep early in the third period of Friday nights game against Albany  (16-13-5-2) and did not wake up until the third period of tonight’s game. Norfolk gave up three more goals tonight while only managing a lone goal against the Devils. The Admirals return to action Tuesday night against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Albany took a 1-0 lead late into the first period. Eric Gelinas picked up  a pass from Darcy Zajac and sent it over Jaroslav Janus at 17:05. The Admirals had a couple of open net opportunities, but failed to convert.

The Devils added another goal early in the second. Stephane Veilleux sent a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Janus at 1:07 for a power play goal. A recent call up from the ECHL would give the Devils a 3-0 lead midway thru the second. J.S. Berube skated out from behind the Admirals goal line and put the puck between Janus and the pipes for the Devil goal at 10:38 of the second period. The Devils would go into the locker room with a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Admirals finally woke up and the physical intensity of the game grew. Norfolk would score their only goal on the power play at 7:43 of the third period. Mark Barberio shot th e puck in on Keith Kinkaid. Richard Panik was in front of the net and deflected Barberio’s shot for Norfolk’s only goal. Albany controlled the rest of the period and smothered the Norfolk offense. The Albany win tonight marked the fourth victory in four games against the Admirals.

Jaroslav Janus (7-5-2) stopped 19 of 22 shots in the loss, and Keith Kinkaid (9-10-0) stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win. Norfolk was 1-7 on the power play. Albany was 1-6.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
