Admirals Fall 3-2 To Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

By Ken Peacock

The Norfolk Admirals (21-13-1-2) fell behind early and could not recover as they lost on the ice to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (20-12-1-4), 3-2. They also lost sole possession of second place in the East. Norfolk returns to action this Friday and Saturday night at Scope against the Sean Avery and the Connecticut Whale. Saturday night will be Norfolk’s annual  “Pink In The Rink”.

The Penguins opened an early three-goal lead in the first period. Paul Thompson was the first to score with a goal at 5:09. Thompson would score once more sixteen seconds later to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead at 5:25. Ben Street would cap the Penguins scoring at 3-0 with a power play goal that beat Tokarski at 16:34.

Norfolk scored it’s first of the night early in the second period. Michel Ouellet received a pass from Jeff Dimmen and sent a one-timer off the Penguin goals and past Brad Thiessen. Radko Gudas narrowed the margin to 3-2 at 6:09 of the third period. Gudas deflected a Mark Barberio shot past Thiessen. Unfortunately for the Admirals that would be their final goal of the night as the Penguins went on to win 3-2.

Dustin Tokarski (14-9-0) stopped 20 of 23 shots in the loss, while Brad Thiessen (13-10-2) stopped 24 of 26 in the win. Norfolk was 0 for 5 on the power play while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1 for 5.

Don’t miss out on any of the fan discussion at Norfolk AdmiralsZone.

I'm not the average hockey nut. It took a bit to grow, but when it did it was like a drug flowing in my veins. I am a season ticket holder of the Norfolk Admirals, longtime supporter of the Washington Capitals, and part time supporter of the Anaheim Ducks (It's hard, but it can be done). My blog is a result of the lack of good sources of Admirals information and happenings. Our paper provides very weak coverage and there is only so much the Admirals themselves can do. There are not to many blogs that cover the Admirals, and when they do it is just rehashed information from the club, the AHL. Nine times out of ten the blogger doesn't even live in the area or go to the games. So what do I want to do? Hmm...good question. I would use this as an outlet for getting out information about the Admirals. Not necessarily the information provided by official channels, but news and information from a fans point of view. Hopefully this is something I can accomplish. I am open to criticism, comments, contributions of infomation for the site. Thank You and Welcome......
