While the NHL is currently under a player lockout and the NHL season is in jeopardy. The AHL is still business as usual and the teams are getting ready for the season opener in mid October. The Norfolk Admirals are preparing for training camp. One big problem right now is that there is no ice down at Scope. Boards and glass yes, but no ice. That should be changing early next week as the ice crew will be busy laying the first sheet for the new season. In the meantime the players will have some time to skate over at Chilled Ponds starting on Friday. The Chilled Ponds online schedule has the team on the ice everyday from Friday until next Wednesday. I am not sure if this is actually part of the formal training camp process or if it just gives the team a chance to get acquainted and get their legs warmed up for camp which is scheduled to officially open on Sept 28.
Yes …. Hockey is in the air.
