This just in…..
Mathieu Perreault has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks. The Caps will receive Anaheim’s fourth-round pick in 2014 and minor-league LW John Mitchell. Interesting trade for Anaheim in that they are getting themselves a decent NHL forward. Perreault is familiar with the Ducks head coach. Bruce Boudreau was Perreault’s coach in Hershey and Washington.
So what does this mean for the Admirals? Mitchell was definitely going to be in the Admirals lineup on opening night. A good solid player for the Admirals and will be missed. NHL rosters are to be submitted by Monday and with Perrault joining the Ducks it could mean that one of those players on the bubble in Anaheim will find themselves with a ticket to Norfolk. I would expect Kurtz, Devante Smith-Pelley could find themselves back in an Admirals uniform. Peter Holland who is currently injured could also be returned once he is cleared for action.
We can all analyze this trade and say what we want to say, but at the end of the day it’s a business transaction. I am a Capitals fan and I hate to see Perreault leave the Cap’s, but this could help elevate his career. Mitchell is destined to join the Hershey Bears. He will join the likes of former Admirals Josh Brittain and Brandon Segal. He will be a welcome addition to the Bears. I wish him well. except when he comes back to Norfolk.
